Hello, I’m Bec

Welcome to The Native Crumb!

My name is Rebecca, but you can call me Bec. I’m a mid-thirties mum to four beautiful children who most certainly keep me on my toes—and ensure that silence in my house is always treated with immediate suspicion.

In September 2022, the kids and I packed up our lives on the Gold Coast and moved to Central Queensland. It was a huge change, but one I have never regretted. We absolutely love the slower pace, the sense of community and the freedom that comes with living in a smaller town. This is home now, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Life in our house is busy, loud, loving and wonderfully neurodivergent. I have ADHD, and I’m raising autistic children with ADHD, so things around here do not always happen in a neat, orderly or particularly quiet fashion. There are plenty of laughs, a little chaos and usually at least one person looking for something that is directly in front of them. Sometimes that person is me.

I also live with endometriosis and PCOS. My own health journey made me think more carefully about the food we eat, how it makes us feel and what I can do to support my family in a realistic way. I wanted to offer my children more nourishing foods, vitamins and minerals without turning every meal into a negotiation worthy of a United Nations summit.

That is where sourdough came in.

I fell in love with the slow, traditional process, the simple ingredients and the possibility of creating food that was both nourishing and genuinely delicious. Because let’s be honest: something can have all the nutritional goodness in the world, but if the kids refuse to touch it, it is not helping anyone.

What began as a personal interest in gut health soon became a passion—and eventually, The Native Crumb was born.

The Native Crumb is my home-based artisan bakery here in Gladstone, specialising in naturally fermented sourdough and small-batch, made-to-order baking. I create classic and savoury loaves, breakfast favourites and bakes inspired by native Australian flavours. Everything is handcrafted using carefully selected ingredients, traditional sourdough methods and a possibly unreasonable amount of love.

For me, this business is about much more than bread. It is about creating comforting food that brings people together. It is about honouring slower, more thoughtful ways of making things. It is about helping busy families enjoy delicious food made with care—and proving that nourishing food does not have to be boring.

I’m not a perfectly polished baker with a spotless kitchen and an effortlessly organised life. I’m a real mum running a small business around four children, ADHD, health challenges and whatever surprise the day decides to throw at me. There may be flour on my clothes, dough on the bench and a coffee I have reheated three times—but every order that leaves my kitchen has been made with heart.

The Native Crumb is small, personal and proudly local. Every loaf is given the time it needs, every order matters and every customer who supports my little business becomes part of its story.

So, whether you are here for a beautifully crusty loaf, a breakfast favourite, an exciting native-inspired flavour or simply because the smell of fresh bread is impossible to resist—welcome. I’m so glad you found me.

Come for the sourdough, stay for the crumbs, the country warmth and the beautifully imperfect adventure behind it all.

We love this sourdough. The flavours are amazing and knowing that it is made locally and with love, makes it taste even better. It is always well packaged and keeps well (not that it lasts very long )
